Project Introduction

The China-Europe Railway Express refers to the container international railway intermodal train that travels between China and Europe and countries along the Belt and Road in accordance with fixed train numbers and routes. Three corridors in the west and the Middle East have been laid out for the operation of China-Europe Railway Express: the western corridor departs from central and western China via Alashankou (Horgos), the central passage departs from North China via Erenhot, and the eastern passage departs from the southeastern coastal areas of China. Our first deployment of smart containers is the China-Europe Express (Chengdu-Lodz) Chengdu-Europe route. Departing from Chengxiang Station in Chengdu, exiting the country from Alashankou, passing through Kazakhstan, Russia, Belarus, and arriving at Lodz Station in Poland, the total distance is 9,965 kilometers and the running time is about 14 days. The sources of goods are mainly locally produced IT products and other export goods. The first train opened on April 26, 2013. As of December 31, 2018, a total of 3,088 trains have been opened, of which 1,591 trains have been opened in 2018.

Case Features

Since the China Railway Express needs to pass through more than 10 countries in just over 10 days, the project overcomes the following challenges:

n  Low temperature work. In the cold regions of the northern hemisphere, the night temperature is lower than -30 degrees Celsius, and the equipment needs to withstand the working temperature of -40 degrees Celsius.

n  Mobile base station coverage is poor. Passing through Kazakhstan and Russia, where the land is sparsely populated, the requirements for equipment and antennas are high

n  Mobile networks vary greatly. There are both backward areas in Central Asia and developed areas in Europe along the way. The network standards and frequency bands of each area are very different. The equipment needs to determine the priority network order (2G/3G/4G) according to the network conditions of each area to achieve fast network connection. , and reduce device power consumption.

n  Network roaming is complicated. In more than a dozen countries along the way, the equipment will roam and register to more than 30 operator networks. It is necessary to conduct a large number of matching tests on the machine, card, and network for each operator network.

As of the end of June 2018, the cumulative number of China-Europe freight trains has exceeded 9,000, transporting nearly 800,000 TEUs of goods, operating in 48 cities in China, and reaching 42 cities in 14 European countries. The transportation network covers the main areas of the Eurasian continent. Up to now, the China-Europe Railway Express has operated more than 11,000 trains, with 65 operating routes, reaching 44 cities in 15 European countries, and transporting a total of 920,000 TEUs of goods.
